House Manager
A house manager oversees all the tasks of the household and the smooth, day-to-day running of the property, its staff and its standards.
What the role covers
Managing the household team, including rotas, training and standards of service.
Caring for the interiors, collections and contents of the house, and keeping inventories up to date.
Coordinating maintenance, contractors and suppliers, and managing household budgets and accounts.
Preparing the house for the family's arrival, for guests and for entertaining, and working alongside security.
How we recruit and vet
Every candidate is interviewed, and we take up references from recent employers directly rather than relying on written letters alone. We check identity and the right to work in the UK, and verify the qualifications and experience a candidate claims.
We assess candidates' experience of leading staff and running households of a similar size, and arrange for shortlisted candidates to meet the family. A paid trial or probationary period can be agreed before the appointment is confirmed.

Indicative package
As an indication, a recent junior house manager vacancy we advertised in Chelsea offered £75,000 to £90,000 net with a flat provided. Packages vary with experience, the size of the household and whether the role is live-in.
