Estate Manager

An estate manager runs a private estate as a working whole: land, buildings, staff, budgets, contractors and the estate's relationships with its neighbours.

What the role covers

Planning and overseeing maintenance of land, buildings, gardens and estate infrastructure.

Preparing budgets and forecasts, and managing spending within the limits the owner authorises.

Leading estate staff such as gardeners, groundsmen and maintenance teams, and appointing and managing contractors.

Keeping the estate compliant with health and safety, environmental and other obligations, and coordinating with security.

How we recruit and vet

Every candidate is interviewed, and we take up references from recent employers directly rather than relying on written letters alone. We check identity and the right to work in the UK, and verify the qualifications and experience a candidate claims.

We look closely at a candidate's record of managing budgets, staff and contractors, and speak to previous owners or land agents where possible. A probationary period with agreed objectives is recommended.
